Paintball Terminology
To new players, some of the terms used
in paintball can be quite confusing, which is why I have
written this to help you out.
12g are simply small cylinders that are 2
and a half inches long and filled with CO2.
Anti-Siphon Tubes are bent tubes that are
installed in large CO2 tanks to suck in air only.
ASA are a short name for Air Source
Adapters and they are what air tank screws into.
Barrel Plugs are secondary safety devices
that plug the front of your gun's barrel and keep paintballs
from exiting.
Bottom Line is a general term none the less
that refers to the device that is mounted on the bottom of the
trigger frame that the air tank is screwed into.
Bunker is like a protective man made
shelter to protect yourself from incoming paintballs.
Chronographs are devices used to measure
the velocity or speed of paintballs exiting the barrel.
Dead Man's Walk is a term referring to a
cheater who pretends they are out and walks to a better
position to shoot an opponent.
Feeder is a big device attached the gun's
marker that can hold a fairly large amount of paintballs.
Flanking is a technique used to maneuver
your team around the enemy to either side to get a better shot
and an advantage over your opponent. If your opponent does this
to you, you have been flanked.
FPS is nothing more than Feet Per Second.
This measures the velocity of how fast a paintball travels and
are different varying by the field but are never over
300fps.
Hopper is a large device attached to your
gun's marker that holds a rather large amount of
paintballs.
Hot Gun is a term referring to a marker
that is shooting over the field's maximumg paintball
velocity.
Marker is an old school term for paintball
gun because paintball guns were used to mark trees when they
were first introduced.
Nitro/N2 is a stable gas compared to CO2
but it is rarely used.
Pods are paintball carrying tubes that
carry extra paintballs that will not fit in the hopper and are
worn around the waste.
PSI stands for Pounds Per Square Inch and
is a measure of unit showing how much pressure is used in a
marker and is typicall around 800 to 850 psi.
Rec Ball is a general term for players that
play just to have fun and not to be on teams or play on
speedball courts.
Wiper is also another term for cheater, or
someone who wipes or splats and tries to hide paint so he won't
be eliminated.
